What is an infrared sauna?

At Your Body Hub we have a Sunlighten Sauna which utilises far, mid and near infrared heat therapy technology. Infrared saunas are an effective tool for natural healing, anti-ageing and prevention of a multitude of ailments. The heat and light of the sauna helps the body to release toxins such as environmental chemicals, allowing the body to restore, rebalance and rejuvenate.

How safe is infrared heat?

Infrared heat is completely safe and healthy and is actually used in hospitals to warm newborn infants. Infrared is a naturally occurring output of the sun without the harmful UV rays associated with unprotected sunlight. Without the risk of burning you can be exposed to infrared light for hours.

What’s the difference between infrared saunas and traditional Saunas?

Infrared saunas work on a cellular level and penetrate human tissue and raise the bodies core temperature, helping the body to detoxify. Traditional saunas heat the air and the internal cabin which causes your body to sweat as a natural mechanism to cool down. For this reason, infrared saunas are very gentle and allows them to be more effective at a more comfortable operating temperature. By raising the bodies core temperature infrared saunas produce a sweat composed of 20% toxins compared to only 3% toxins with a traditional sauna.

What should I wear in the infrared sauna?

You can wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing but we do suggest that you wear clothes that are not restricting and are breathable such as cotton and bamboo. Typically, women wear workout shorts and a tank top or a sports bra and men wear work out gear or swimming trunks.

Can I use an infrared sauna when pregnant?

It is not recommended and we would recommend that you consult your medical practitioner before using an infrared sauna whilst pregnant.

Is there a specific time of day that is best to use the infrared sauna?

There is no evidence that shows a morning or evening has a greater benefit so it is completely up to you and your lifestyle.

How long is an infrared sauna session?

Infrared sauna sessions are typically between 30- and 45-minute sessions depending on the program.

How often should I use an infrared sauna?

This depends on your personal outcome and what you were hoping to achieve. If you are using the infrared sauna for a specific health reasons such as a cleanse or detoxification you may find a greater benefit from using the infrared sauna more frequently, 2 to 3 times a week. Infrared saunas are safe to use every day.

Can I use an infrared sauna while breastfeeding?

We recommend you consult in your medical practitioner as this depends upon specific circumstances.

Can children use infrared saunas?

Children’s core body temperature rises at a much faster rate than adults, this is due to a higher metabolic rate per body mass, limited circulatory adaptation to increase cardiac demands and the inability to regulate their own body temperature through sweating. We recommend consulting your medical practitioner prior to children using an infrared sauna.

Can the elderly use infrared saunas?

Due to circulatory conditions and a decrease in sweat gland function the ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. In order to maintain core body temperature, the body must be able to activate its natural cooling process. We recommend consulting your medical practitioner prior to using an infrared sauna.

What are the health benefits of an infrared sauna?

Infrared saunas are very effective at natural healing and prevention. The benefits include detoxification, relaxation, lowering blood pressure, anti-ageing and skin purification, cell health, weight loss, pain relief, improve circulation and wound healing.

Can I bring A friend with me to my session?

Absolutely you can! Our sauna is a two-person sauna. We charge an extra $15 per session for an additional person if you bring a friend.

Do I need to bring anything with me for my session?

You do not need to bring anything specific with you for your session.

Do you have a shower at Your Body Hub?

Yes, we do have a shower in the sauna room, however it is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after your session before showering. Your body can continue to perspire for up to 30 minutes after an infrared sauna. It is best to have a shower when you get home to allow your body to naturally cool down. We do recommend showering when you get home to clean and remove old skin cells, toxins and sweat residue that’s risen to the surface of the skin during your session.
